Conveying

Building a conveyor system in an automotive plant is a challenging task. OMRON’s technology in the areas of advanced motion, safety, sensing and more help automotive manufacturers promote accuracy and maximum uptime while protecting workers from moving hazards.

Challenge

Workpiece positions must be detectable in various stages of the assembly process. When difficult-to-detect workpieces (curved, glossy, or casting surfaces) cannot be detected repeatedly, sensors need to be reselected or adjusted. When a sensor malfunction due to the environment causes a line stoppage during mass production, it can take a long time to restart.

Since conveyors come in different lengths and layouts, pushbutton emergency stops may be difficult for operators to reach and therefore may not be the ideal solution. Rope switches can be a cost-effective choice because they provide varying spans and are simple to install along the length of a conveyor. A person working at any point of the conveyor has access to the safety device and can simply pull the cord to stop the system.

Solution

With the protected sensing surface, the E3AS photoelectric sensor helps minimize line downtime and maximize uptime when conveying parts to lineside. The increased range of the E2E NEXT proximity sensor offers a solution to applications that could not be solved before due to lack of sensing range.
